You might be surprised at all the items that actually can be recycled.
Right now, at SPMS, we are recycling "California Refund Value" (CRV) items, for which we get money back for our school.
Those items are: aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass. Mrs. Bertolina's homeroom Recycling Club picks out recyclables from our trash. These items are picked up weekly by the L.A. Conservation Corps. Students, you can make this easier by putting your bottles and cans ONLY in the blue bins with the holes on top.

Our school also recycles paper. Paper makes up almost 50% of all school waste -- and it's recyclable! Yuck -- keep it out of the landfills. Put it in the blue bins in your classroom.
We will be having an e-Waste collection from April 8 - 24, 2009. Please do not throw these kinds of items in the regular trash! They are extremely toxic and can leach poison into our drinking water.

Hey - this is actually a way for our school to make money! Throw away your old cell phones and inkjet cartridges in the cardboard box in the front office or in Mrs. Patterson's room (118). We mail them in to Planet Green and then send us a check!!! Some old phones are worth up to $20.00 each! Help our school AND help the planet!!!
Many, many other things can be reused and recycled, including different grades of plastic, most metals, and of course paper. We will be posting more information on how these items can be recycled soon.
